About Cha-am
Cha-am is Hua Hin’s quieter neighbour, with a long pine-shaded beach, Santorini Park and Zucata Sheep Farm.
Cha-am is a beach town in Phetchaburi province, just north of Hua Hin, and has long been a favourite weekend escape for Bangkok families. Its seafront road is lined with casual seafood restaurants, deckchairs and umbrellas, and the atmosphere is noticeably more Thai and relaxed than Hua Hin’s busier centre. Large resorts and condo projects stretch along the coast between the two towns.
People travel from Hua Hin to Cha-am for a quieter beach day, for its family attractions, or because their resort or holiday home is there. Golfers, wedding guests and anyone visiting friends along the coast also make the short trip often. The distance is short, but taxis are not always easy to find for the way back. Having a car booked for both directions means you can stay for sunset dinner without worrying about the ride home.

The road between Hua Hin and Cha-am
The drive between Hua Hin and Cha-am is short and simple. Most trips use Phetkasem Road (Highway 4), the main north–south highway, which links the two towns in a straight line with many resorts, the Mrigadayavan Palace turn-off and several family attractions along the way. Some hotels are easier to reach along smaller coastal roads near the beach. Traffic is usually light, but it can slow in Hua Hin town, around Cha-am’s beach road at weekends and at the busy junctions on Phetkasem Road.
Good places to stop on the way
- Mrigadayavan Palace, roughly midway between the towns
- Plearnwan, the retro-style shopping village
- Santorini Park on Phetkasem Road
- Zucata Sheep Farm for families
Toilet and food stops are free. Sightseeing stops at attractions are 500 THB each — add them in the booking notes.
Best time to travel to Cha-am
The beach is most pleasant from November to March, when the weather is drier and the sea calmer. Thai weekends and public holidays bring many Bangkok visitors to Cha-am, so the beach road and restaurants fill up and traffic slows. Weekdays are calmer. In the wet season, roughly May to October, showers usually come in the afternoon, so a morning beach visit is a good plan. Sunsets over the hills behind the town are a pleasant reason to stay late.
