About Chatuchak

Chatuchak is one of the world’s largest weekend markets, with thousands of stalls selling everything from clothes to plants.

Chatuchak Weekend Market fills a huge site in northern Bangkok next to Chatuchak Park, with thousands of stalls arranged in numbered sections. Shoppers find clothes, handicrafts, ceramics, art, antiques, home décor, pets and plants, plus endless street food and drinks. It is busy, hot and a little chaotic, but that is part of the fun. Maps at the entrances help, but getting a little lost is part of the experience.

Visitors from Hua Hin make the trip to shop for souvenirs, furnish a holiday home or simply experience one of Bangkok’s famous sights. Expats and long-stay residents often come for home goods and plants that are hard to find on the coast. With a car waiting nearby, you can buy heavier or bulkier items without worrying about carrying them home. It also pairs well with a night in Bangkok or a visit to nearby malls.

Things to see and do in Chatuchak

  • Clothing and fashion sections by independent designers
  • Handicrafts, ceramics and home décor for souvenirs
  • The plant and garden market area
  • Art galleries and antiques
  • Street food and coconut ice cream
  • Chatuchak Park and Queen Sirikit Park next door
  • Or Tor Kor Market across the road for fresh produce

  • Pickup at your hotel, villa or condo anywhere in Hua Hin
  • Drop-off at your hotel or address in Chatuchak
  • Fuel and expressway tolls included in the price

The road between Hua Hin and Chatuchak

The drive between Hua Hin and Chatuchak follows Phetkasem Road (Highway 4) north through Cha-am and Phetchaburi, then usually joins Rama II Road (Highway 35) into Bangkok. From there the route uses the city’s expressways towards the northern side of the city, where the market sits close to Mo Chit and Kamphaeng Phet. Tolls are part of the trip. The coastal section is normally quiet, while Rama II and the city roads can be slow on weekend mornings and Sunday afternoons, when many people drive in and out of Bangkok.

Good places to stop on the way

  • Cha-am for an early coffee
  • Phetchaburi, known for its desserts
  • Fuel stations and cafés along Rama II Road
  • Samut Songkhram before entering Bangkok

Toilet and food stops are free. Sightseeing stops at attractions are 500 THB each — add them in the booking notes.

Best time to travel to Chatuchak

Chatuchak is mainly a Saturday and Sunday market, so plan your trip for the weekend. Early mornings are cooler and less crowded, while midday can be very hot inside the covered lanes. The cool season from November to February is most comfortable. Expect slow traffic leaving Bangkok on Sunday afternoons, so a mid-afternoon departure home is often smoother than an evening one. Bring a small bag, cash and a refillable water bottle.

Travel tip for Chatuchak

Arrive by 9–10 am on Saturday or Sunday before the heat and crowds; the driver waits and loads your shopping.

Taxi vs. bus, train or flight to Chatuchak

Tour buses follow a fixed programme. With your own car and driver you choose when to leave, how long to stay and where to stop on the way back.

Choose your car

Sedans suit one to three travellers, MPVs and SUVs four, and VIP vans up to eight with luggage. For long trips a van gives everyone more room to stretch out.
