Private taxi

The simplest option: a driver collects you at the airport or your Bangkok hotel and drops you at your Hua Hin hotel. One price for the whole car — from 1,600 THB — which often works out cheaper per person for families and groups.

Minivan

Minivans leave from bus and van terminals in Bangkok. They are cheap, but space for suitcases is limited and you still need to get to the terminal and from the Hua Hin drop-off to your hotel.

Train

Trains run from Bangkok to the historic Hua Hin railway station. It is slower than the road and seats should be booked ahead, but the journey is relaxed.

Bus from Suvarnabhumi Airport

Buses run from Suvarnabhumi to Hua Hin on a timetable. If your flight lands late or is delayed, you may have to wait for the next departure.

Flying to Hua Hin

Hua Hin has a small airport, but scheduled flights from Bangkok are limited and change often. For most travellers arriving on an international flight, continuing by road from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang is simpler and faster than waiting for a connection.

Which option should you choose?

If you are arriving at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang after a long flight, with children, older travellers or several suitcases, a private taxi is the most comfortable choice: the driver meets you inside the terminal and you do not need to change transport. For a group of three or more, the price per person is often close to the bus or van.

If you are travelling light on a tight budget and have time to spare, the train is a pleasant way to see the countryside, and the airport bus is a good value option from Suvarnabhumi. Minivans are cheap but cramped for big bags.

The drive between Bangkok and Hua Hin

Hua Hin is about 200 km south-west of central Bangkok. Most drivers take Rama II Road (Highway 35) out of the city past Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram, then join Phetkasem Road (Highway 4) through Phetchaburi and Cha-am into Hua Hin. From the airports the first part of the route uses the expressways around Bangkok, which is why the trip takes about the same time from Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang or a city hotel.

Without heavy traffic the drive takes around 3 hours. Friday evenings leaving Bangkok, Sunday afternoons coming back and long holiday weekends are the busiest times, so on those days allow extra time. Your driver knows where the slow stretches are and when it is worth taking a different road.

There are large petrol stations with clean toilets, coffee shops and convenience stores all along the way. Ask your driver to stop whenever you like — for food, a toilet break or a photo — at no extra cost.
