About Silom
Silom and Sathorn are Bangkok’s business district, with riverside hotels, Lumphini Park and the Patpong night market.
Silom and Sathorn form Bangkok’s financial district, where office towers and embassies meet old shophouses, temples and the Chao Phraya riverside. By day it is a working business area; in the evening street food stalls, rooftop bars and the night market around Patpong bring it to life. The district has a large choice of hotels for every budget, from riverside icons to business hotels and serviced apartments near the main roads.
Business travellers, families staying in riverside hotels and visitors heading to the river all travel between Hua Hin and Silom. It is a convenient base, with the BTS and MRT nearby and river boats from Sathorn Pier, which makes it easy to reach the Grand Palace, Wat Arun and ICONSIAM. Arriving by private car makes it easy to check in after a long drive and head straight out to the river or a rooftop for sunset.

The road between Hua Hin and Silom
The drive between Hua Hin and Silom heads north on Phetkasem Road (Highway 4) through Cha-am and Phetchaburi, then joins Rama II Road (Highway 35) through Samut Songkhram and Samut Sakhon into Bangkok. From the Rama II end, drivers either take the expressway into the city or use the Rama III road, which is often handy for riverside hotels. The open highway usually moves well, but Rama II roadworks and city traffic around Sathorn at rush hour can add time.
Good places to stop on the way
- Cha-am
- Phetchaburi
- Maeklong Railway Market
- Amphawa Floating Market (afternoons, weekends)
Toilet and food stops are free. Sightseeing stops at attractions are 500 THB each — add them in the booking notes.
Best time to travel to Silom
November to February is the most pleasant time for walking around Bangkok. Avoid reaching Silom during weekday rush hours, when Sathorn Road becomes very congested. Sunday afternoons and the end of holidays bring heavy traffic heading into Bangkok from the coast, so leaving earlier in the day pays off. Evenings are the best time to enjoy the street food and night market, so many travellers plan arrivals for the afternoon.
Travel tip for Silom
Riverside hotels on Charoen Krung are often quicker to reach via the Rama III road — your driver knows the way.
Taxi vs. bus, train or flight to Silom
Trains and buses connect many Thai cities, but they leave from stations outside the centre and rarely match flight or check-in times. A private car takes you from hotel to hotel.
Choose your car
Sedans suit one to three travellers, MPVs and SUVs four, and VIP vans up to eight with luggage. For long trips a van gives everyone more room to stretch out.
