About Krabi
Krabi has Ao Nang, Railay’s limestone cliffs and boats to Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.
Krabi province on the Andaman Sea is famous for its limestone karsts rising out of turquoise water, island-studded bays and dramatic beaches. Ao Nang is the lively beach base with hotels, restaurants and long-tail boats, Krabi town has a riverside night market and local feel, and Railay, reachable only by boat, is a world-renowned rock-climbing spot. Klong Muang and Tubkaek beaches offer quieter resort stays north of Ao Nang.
People travel between Hua Hin and Krabi to combine the calm Gulf coast with the scenery of the Andaman, often as part of a longer tour of the south. Families with lots of luggage, groups and those who dislike flying find a private car comfortable, and it lets you break the long journey wherever you like rather than following a bus timetable. Groups arriving from the islands often prefer to drive back to Hua Hin in one comfortable vehicle.

The road between Hua Hin and Krabi
The drive between Hua Hin and Krabi is one of the longest in the south. It follows Phetkasem Road (Highway 4) through Prachuap Khiri Khan to Chumphon, then Highway 41 towards Surat Thani, before crossing the peninsula westwards through hills and rubber and oil palm plantations to Krabi. Most of the route is on major highways with good surfaces, though the cross-peninsula roads have more bends and slower trucks. The driver plans fuel, meal and rest stops so the journey stays comfortable. Many people prefer to travel the full distance in daylight hours.
Good places to stop on the way
- Prachuap Khiri Khan
- Chumphon for lunch
- Surat Thani area
- Khao Sok National Park (a detour, ideal for an overnight stop)
Toilet and food stops are free. Sightseeing stops at attractions are 500 THB each — add them in the booking notes.
Best time to travel to Krabi
The Andaman coast is best from November to April, when the sea is calm and the skies clear. From May to October the south-west monsoon brings rain and rougher water, and some island boats are reduced. Starting early from Hua Hin means arriving in daylight. An overnight stop at Chumphon or Khao Sok turns the drive into part of the holiday.
